If you hold a conditional or unconditional firm offer of an academic place, the University will send you an email to invite you to apply for student halls (this will usually be from March before you are due to start your studies). The University can guarantee a room in University accommodation for first year, full time students who apply before June deadline. See the webpage for more details.
The email will ask you to register an account on the accommodation portal so that you can choose your preferred hall and room type.
Please be aware halls are allocated on a first come, first serve basis and the university cannot guarantee you will be offered your first choice of specific room type or hall.
If your university accommodation application is successful, you will receive a room offer by email. To accept the offer, you respond by the stated deadline to ensure the best chances of getting a room that meets your needs.
Your room offer will tell you:
Once you have made an application for the student halls, it can take up to 15 working days to receive a Room Offer or any correspondence regarding your application. (If you haven’t received anything after this time, please check your junk/spam inbox.)
Alternatively, you can also log onto the accommodation application portal at any time to view any updates. The portal will show the status of your application as below:
Applied > Awaiting verification > Awaiting allocation > Allocated

To complete the room, offer process, you will need to:
You can pay your accommodation rent in full or by termly instalments. For further information, contact at accommodation.
Once you have completed all the steps above to accept your room offer, you will be sent a confirmation and offer summary by email. Please keep this email for your personal reference.
International/ EU students are welcome to apply for a room in Universities halls accommodation; if you hold a firm offer of a place at University, you will be offered a room (subject to availability) once you have met all the conditions of your course offer, and you have received your CAS (after you have paid your 50% tuition fee deposit).
The standard contact length covers a 42 week and 5-day period. Contract lengths are NOT related to your course length, so check with your faculty first what your term dates will be before submitting your accommodation application.
Universities can offer shorter and longer contracts to students in particular circumstances, such as those enrolled on the ERASMUS programme, and care leavers. For further clarification, please email accommodation.
If you have a specific room request such as living with a friend or you would prefer a single sex flat, please let us know by completing the NOTES section on your accommodation application.
If you’d like to live with a friend or relative, you must both hold a firm offer of a place at the same University. Both you and your friend or relative will need to make the same request on your student halls application to ensure mutual acceptance of the arrangement.
You can also opt for a single sex flat when you apply for halls, however, please be aware that this may restrict your permitted guests during the academic year.
We will try to accommodate your request where we can; however, please be aware that this cannot be guaranteed. As rooms are allocated on a first come, first served basis, please submit your application as soon as you receive your invitation to apply for halls.
Although student hall applications from students with disabilities and/or enrolling on their first year are prioritised, you can apply to live in university accommodation for each year of your course.
However if you are a returning student, please get in touch with us as early as possible to let us know that you’d like to continue to live in halls, and then ensure that you return your application email with your preferences as quickly as you can, as rooms are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
The Residential Agreement is legally binding under UK law and there is a 14-day cooling off period or right to withdraw from the agreement once signed, even if
you have made no payment (This does not apply if you have already moved into the accommodation.)
After 14 days has passed (or you have already moved into the accommodation), you will be liable for the contract and unable to cancel.
Universities do not have an opt-out clause, except in serious extenuating circumstances. Once you have signed your accommodation contract, you are liable for the accommodation fees as stated.
For further information, please see the Terms and Conditions of Residency.
If you receive an error message which states that the portal does not recognise your details, this usually means that one of the sections you have completed is incorrect or incomplete.
Here are some common issues:
If you continue to have problems, please email the accommodation team and supply a screenshot of the error on the portal.
Universities will always make sure you are aware of the reasons why your application/ room offer has been withdrawn.
The reasons why your application has been withdrawn may include:
If this is the case, please contact accommodation team as soon as possible.
It is not possible to provide accommodation unless the application process (including accepting the room offer) has been completed. If you plan to travel to universities before this process has been completed, you will need to make your own accommodation arrangements for any days leading up to acceptance. This may include staying at a hotel at your own cost.
